With the COVID-19 pandemic bringing so many changes to our lives, more and more Filipinos are turning away from the hustle and bustle of the city to the idyllic peace in the provinces. Many are also getting into farming as a new exciting business opportunity. According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, Support activities to agriculture, forestry, and fishing all rose by 4.1% by the end of 2020. The share of the AFF (Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishing) to GDP in the fourth quarter of 2020 rose 10.8% compared to the 10.1% of last year. 

One person had the foresight to teach these new farmers a thing or two about agriculture and farm managementー Reden Mark “The Agrillenial” Costales. He is one of the owners of family-owned Company Costales Nature Farm in Majayjay, Laguna. For the past 11 years, The Costales Nature Farm has been conducting seminars on production capacity-based training. 

When you think of farming or farm management, the first thing that would come to mind is production. Usually, you would picture a rice field with farmers and carabaos producing rice, corn, chicken, etc. If you picture that then you are not totally wrong but farming is more than just that. In his ESME webinar entitled “Agribusiness: The Next Level of Farming” last March 18, the Agrillenial detailed the various aspects that come into play in agribusinessー there’s logistics, value-adding, input, fertilizer/pesticide making, and many more chains in the industry. Mr. Costales goes into great detail about how all of these links make up the agricultural landscape in the Philippines.

True to his name, The Agrillenial is currently imparting his knowledge in his popular Youtube account. He teaches agriculture and gives farming advice in a really “hip” and cool way. The Agrillenial wants to remove the stigma that agriculture is boring and only for old people, he wants to repackage it and to put it in his own words, “I want to make agriculture sexier and more enticing for the youth.” With over 112 thousand subscribers and counting, The Agrillenial is simply unstoppable.
