Sierreza: A Community-Supported Agriculture

More than just addressing food security, the community-supported agriculture model of Sierreza bridges the long-standing gap between farmers and consumers that resulted in unsustainable production and consumption patterns in our agriculture industry at present. By promoting fair trade and sustainably-grown products, Sierreza not only helps in marketing our marginalized farmers' produce to consumers but also grabs the opportunity to promote mindful consumption by educating consumers on how their food is produced and who are the farmers making sure that their food is safe and sustainably-produced. We are able to do this by keeping a healthy relationship with our partner communities of marginalized farmers -- offering them training, farming support, marketing support, and access to information about their customers in the urban areas. In return, we get to understand their situation and needs better that helps us provide the help they truly need in order to regain their confidence in their livelihood and eventually stand on their own feet.
